Who Are We?
Child Development, Inc. works with families and the community to provide high quality, comprehensive preschool education with an emphasis on family engagement and supportive services that prepares each child for success in school and a lifetime of learning.
We have 50+ years of experience in delivering comprehensive, high quality, federal and state funded programs that include: Head Start (since 1965); PA PreK Counts (since 2007); and Keystone STAR 4 Child Care (child care since 1982 and recognized as a Keystone STAR 4 program since 2004) for more than 600 children and families each year.
Children in Schuylkill County are at high risk for school failure. Only one third of children have access to publicly funded, high quality, early childhood education programs. Child outcomes and family outcomes progress reports provide the data/evidence that without the presence of Child Development’s Head Start, PA PreK Counts, and STAR 4 child care, children would be at an even greater risk for school failure.
Our preschool centers are located in the most populated communities with the greatest needs: Ashland, Mahanoy City, Pottsville, Saint Clair, Schuylkill Haven, Shenandoah and Tamaqua.
Our vision is that access to and investment in publicly funded, high quality, comprehensive preschool programs must improve if Schuylkill County is to secure a brighter future for its children, families, and communities. This vision is supported by research which indicates that the benefits of quality early education impact every child, especially children from at-risk families, and extend throughout our communities.
Child Development, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency 501(c) (3) in good standing with the Department of State since 1982 and a proud member of Schuylkill United Way since 1998. We have a proven history of full compliance with state, federal, local, and private funding requirements with a commitment to continuous quality improvements.
