Who Are We? 

Avenues is an organization committed to changing the lives of individuals with developmental and/or acquired disabilities. Avenues, founded as United Cerebral Palsy, has been serving Schuylkill and surrounding Counties since 1952. As a human service organization, we are committed to providing quality services that enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. In doing so, we offer a wide variety of programs that reach people from birth to an elderly age in Schuylkill, Carbon, Northumberland, Lebanon, and Luzerne Counties.

Children Services
-Early Intervention - Helps parents understand their child's needs by direct participation, planning, and incorporation of the program into the family's daily routine to assist the child in reaching their maximum developmental potential.

-First Friends, Preschool, Daycare and Summer Camp provides a structure environment to educate your child from a developmental approach.

-Neurological Clinic is a referral based clinic that is free of charge to individuals with disabilities 21 years of age or younger.

-The Pennsylvania Elks Home Service Program Supports and promotes the independence of individuals with developmental disabilities, by providing advocacy and referral services in their home environment.

Adult Services
-Community Participation Supports - Provides year round day supports to adults with moderate to profound developmental and/or physical disabilities. Services are provide in various Avenues facilities as well as community locations. Services are based on an individual's specific needs and abilities.

- In Home and Community Supports - Provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to become integrated, active members in the community.

-Vocational Program - Provides services in various environments, encouraging both personnel growth and independence, enabling each individual to pursue self-esteem, self-worth, self-pride and the confidence they need to work. Individuals learn job skills needed to acquire employments in a competitive integrated job market. A variety of support service are available to gain and maintain competitive integrated employment.

-Adult Socialization - Offers people a chance to spend time with their friends in a social setting while providing an opportunity to gain social skills within the community.

-Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program- Teaches individuals riding skills while enjoy both physical and psychological benefits through horseback riding and the relationship with the horse.

-Older Adult Day Care- Offered in 3 locations encourages independence and supports older adults in remaining active and healthy in their daily life while remaining in their home


-Senior Recreation- Provides opportunities for individuals aged 60 and older to participate in community activities and trips (out to dinner, to theater, shopping, etc.).

Community Services
-Community Food Bank Provides food for individuals and families in need. Food bank is operated at 2 Park Street, Pottsville, PA.



How To Help!


Volunteer - Board of Directors- Must be able to commit to a 3 year term and Promote the Mission of Avenues.

Volunteer - Therapeutic Horse Back Riding Program - Side walkers and lead walkers needed. Program operates Spring, Summer and Fall in Freidensburg and Ringtown. Training is provided.

Volunteer - Maintain Buildings and Grounds of various programs. May include painting projects.

Donate - Donate new or gently used clothing, household goods and furniture to our 2 thrift shops, Valley Treasures in Valley View and Expressions in Shenandoah.

Business Opportunity- Open your Business to our Vocational Program as a site for our Work Base Learning Environment Program. This Program assess and teaches job skills in a work environment. We have a need for sites in both Schuylkill County and the Greater Hazleton Area.
